Kochab notifications aren't arriving

Push delivery has independent gates - OS permission, per-service setup, quiet hours, per-event muting - and Send Test Push narrows down which is closed.

Push delivery passes through several independent gates, and any one of them being closed produces the same symptom: nothing shows up. Work through them in order. The gates are similar on Android and iPhone, but iOS can display a coarse background alert before Kochab runs. The app’s local quiet hours and event filters cannot silence that system alert.

1. Send Test Push

Open More > Settings > Notifications and enable notifications for this device first. Registration requires active purchase or trial access and notification permission. Send Test Push becomes available after registration. It sends a real push through the same path as a live event, so it tells you whether the pipeline works at all. If the test push arrives, the delivery pipeline works - continue from step 3; the cause is in per-service setup, quiet hours, or a muted event type.

2. Notification permission

The phone’s own notification permission is separate from anything Kochab configures. If you denied it, or dismissed the prompt without answering, Kochab has nothing to display even though the delivery path exists. Check Kochab’s notification permission in your phone’s Settings app.

On an iPhone, deleting and reinstalling Kochab keeps your services and settings, but the notification permission belongs to iOS and does not survive the reinstall. Everything looks restored, so the missing permission is easy to overlook - grant it again and pushes resume.

3. Per-service setup

Each Sonarr, Radarr, or other supported service needs its own notification hook set up before it can push anything. That hook is separate from the connection you use to browse and control it. More > Settings > Notifications lists any service that still needs this as Not set up; tapping it opens that service’s own edit screen to finish the setup.

4. Quiet Hours

More > Settings > Notifications > Quiet Hours silences notifications during the window you set, on this device, for notifications Kochab displays itself. Android background delivery and foreground notifications use this filter. iOS may still display its coarse background alert; Kochab does not replay locally silenced notifications after the window ends.

5. Per-event muting

Kochab lets you mute individual event types per service (for example, health warnings but not every completed download). The app suppresses its own notifications for a muted event type. iOS may still show a coarse background alert before the app applies that local preference. Check the event toggles for the specific service and event you expected to hear about.

6. The phone’s own delivery restrictions

Android: some phone makers restrict background delivery for apps they consider unused, on top of Android’s standard behavior. If Kochab is in any list on your phone for “sleeping apps”, “battery optimization”, or similar, remove it - stock Android delivers push notifications through Doze without this, but manufacturer battery managers often override that.

iPhone: an active Focus mode can silence notifications unless Kochab is allowed through it, and Scheduled Summary can hold them for later delivery. Both live in the phone’s Settings > Notifications / Settings > Focus, outside anything Kochab controls.

If Send Test Push itself fails

A failed test push (not just a silent one) means the app log has the cause - More > Settings > App Log.
